In chasing down some persistent bugs in my own code, I found the function
gtk_object_check_cast in gtk/gtkobject.c to be insufficiently robust. Given
it's a function that is supposed to warn you of all sorts of different casting
problems, having it coredump on you isn't appreciated ;-) I basically inserted
lots of checks for NULL pointers to help in tracking down errors.
