below the surface records was opened in june of 1999. this tiny hub of a store is just south of san francisco in a small town called burlingame. below the surface caters to mainly the type of hip-hop head that appreciates truly independent hip-hop - or as some say, underground hip-hop. the purpose of below the surface is to supply the kids on the penninsula and anywhere else in the bay area with good music ... good hip-hop music as well as t-shirts, sweathshirts, magazines, videos, and a ton of graff paraphernalia. this store is run, operated, and owned by someone that has been into hip-hop and written graffiti for a larger part of his life. therefore, the store has only the dopest products. some people say just because the store resides in a suburb of frisco it's not worth the drive. but instead of being oblivious to this spot, check it out for yourself and you will definitely not be let down.
